How and Why to Choose an Intention Word Instead of a New Years Resolution
In this soul-searching episode, I chat about my yearly tradition of choosing a single word that serves as an intention and guiding light for the next 12 months. I share how this ritual has led to powerful self-discovery and manifested in surprising ways over the past few years.
I explain why I prefer setting an annual intention over the typical New Year’s resolutions that most people abandon by February. My very first intention was “transform” which reflected big dreams but not my readiness. The next year’s word “free” foreshadowed my liberating divorce I never saw coming.
I describe how the word “love” represented my desire to fill my world with more warmth and connection after the pain of divorce. And how this year’s theme “commit” gave me the courage to finally commit to my calling, launch this podcast, and take a year-long dating hiatus to realign with my soul.
As I look to choose my 2024 intention, the word “connect” is speaking to me as it represents my longing to deepen bonds with my kids, listeners, and potentially even a romantic partner. I explain how living intentionally this past year has shown me the power of leaning into intuition and watching my yearly intention unveil itself in mysteriously perfect ways.
There is power in intention words.
